FAST FORWARD TO STREAMING VIDEO
A one-day workshop from ALT

OVERVIEW
The use of 'streaming' digital video to support web-based learning
resources is rapidly becoming an attractive and viable option for
many in higher education.

This workshop will take you through the stages of developing and
delivering online presentations or 'virtual elements' combining
digital video, PowerPoint slides and other web elements. The pros
and cons of the various technologies will be discussed by the
JISC/DNER 'Click and Go Video' project
(www.clickandgovideo.ac.uk)

TOPICS TO BE COVERED
This workshop will cover a range of topics including:
* appropriate use of video clips
* filming for digital conversion
* digital formats
* compression options
* editing
* preparation of the PowerPoint framework
* integration of media
* synchronisation
* server issues

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Delegates will have a clearer idea of the technology behind
streaming video and of the issues involved in using it to deliver
lectures.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is designed as an intensive introduction for
beginners and those with intermediate web development skills.

1330 Editing techniques - an overview of streaming techniques

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Sally Thornhill is the UMIST based Project Officer for the Click and
Go Video project. She has a background in marketing and
multimedia design, ranging from web design to lecturing computer
video game animation. Sally graduated in Retail Marketing from
Manchester Metropolitan University and has a Masters in Creative
Technology at the University of Salford

Paul Hammond-White is a member of the University of
Manchester Advanced Telematics Centre team. Paul has a
background in networks and computer design, programming,
Computer Aided Design and 3D modelling.
