medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear medieval-religionists,
I am trying to find a citation for a quotation from Robert Grosseteste
defining heresy: “an opinion chosen by human perception contrary to holy
scripture, publicly avowed and obstinately defended.” Although I’ve found it
quoted (always in English, as above) about six or seven times in a quick
survey of textbooks and monographs on heresy, the authors (frustratingly)
never give a citation to Grosseteste himself. Could the Grosseteste experts
out there help me on this? I have visited Jim Ginther’s excellent Electronic
Grosseteste ( www.grosseteste.com <http://www.grosseteste.com/> ), but the
search function on the site is temporarily disabled.
Thanks,
Shannon McSheffrey
