I am curious as to whether or not museums in the UK allow access to items not
on display to indiviuals who possess a passion for early medieval history, but
unfortunately lack any professional credentials.
I have been an active norman living history enthusiast for some time now and
base everything that I re-create on archaeological evidence and period
sources. However living in Australia limits my ability to access various vital
information. Of the many book that I have read images are simply reprinted
again and again, yet the British Museum holds thousands of artifacts from the
saxon period alone.
I'm asking this as I intend to visit the UK within the next few months and I
would like to be able to view some period pieces, if possible, and would like
to understand the protocol for doing this.
