WORKSHOP ON CREATIVE SYSTEMS
Approaches to Creativity in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science

Fourth International Conference on Case Based Reasoning (ICCBR'01)
Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre,
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, 31 July 2001

website: http://creative-systems.dei.uc.pt/CS01Workshop/

The Program Committee of the Workshop on Creative Systems -
Approaches to Creativity in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive
Science - invites submissions of technical and position papers for
the workshop. The workshop will be held at Simon Fraser University
at Harbour Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 31 July
2001, as a part of the Fourth International Conference on Case Based
Reasoning (ICCBR'01).

-------------------------------
Workshop Objectives
-------------------------------
This workshop will bring together communities from AI and Cognitive
Science working on Creative Systems, giving the opportunity to
promote presentation and discussion of ongoing work in the area. The
workshop aims to encourage cross-fertilization between the various
approaches, including the study of cognitive and computational models
for creativity and the application of current AI techniques to the
development of creative systems.
The workshop will provide a forum for identifying trends and
opportunities for research on creativity and promising practices
concerning the development of creative systems.

----------
Topics
----------
Original contributions are solicited in all areas related to Creative
Systems, including but not limited to:
  - Computational models of creativity
  - Cognitive Science models of creativity
  - CBR, evolutionary, hybrid and other approaches to Creative Systems
  - Contributions of computational and cognitive creativity to CBR
  - Evaluation of Creativity
  - Machine Creativity
  - Metaphor
  - Creativity-support computational tools
  - Applications to music and arts
  - Applications to architecture and design
  - Applications to scientific discovery

-----------------------
Important Dates
-----------------------
11 May 2001 Submission deadline for workshop contributions
10 June 2001 Notice of acceptance
30 June 2001 Deadline for final camera-ready copies

--------------------------
Workshop Format
--------------------------
The workshop will comprise three thematic sessions and a final panel.
Each session will be organized around a common theme, and will close
with a panel discussion comparing the approaches presented. In
addition, the workshop will close with a final panel on current and
future research trends.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Submission Requirements for Contributions
---------------------------------------------------------------
Two categories of submissions are welcome: technical abstracts and
position papers.
Technical abstracts must be no longer than 3 pages in length and are
expected to describe current research on creative systems development
and modeling. Full, camera-ready versions of accepted abstracts will
be no longer than 6 pages.
Position papers must be no longer than 2 pages and are expected to
address foundational issues and research proposals.
All Submissions will be made by electronic means, in ICCBR'01 format.
Fax or snail mail submissions will not be accepted. Detailed
instructions and a submission form will soon be made available on the
workshop web site.
Accepted papers will be considered for publication in a special issue
of creative systems in an international journal.

----------------------------
Reviewing Process
----------------------------
Submissions will be judged on significance, originality, quality and
clarity. Each paper will be cross-reviewed by two referees.
Contributions will be subject to anonymous, blind peer review:
reviewers will not be aware of the identities of the authors. This
requires that authors exercise some care not to identify themselves
in their contributions. Authors will receive feedback in the form of
reviewers' comments.
Detailed instructions will soon be made available at the workshop web site.
