David
re your research project to find as many Kipling
settings as you can.
I know of one modern(ish) composer who might interest
you - a chap who was called Peter Bellamy. He set many
of Kipling's poems to music and there is a website
where you can find out more about what is available on
www.free-reed.co.uk which on entering will take you to
www.freedmus.demon.co.uk/freedmus/home.htm
The site has plenty of recordings.
In addition to the above, Bellamy and his wife
published a collection of songs from the "Puck"
stories called "Oak, Ash & Thorn" of Kipling's words
(with permission of Mrs George Bambrige, RK's
daughter)with settings created by Bellamy based on
English folk songs. This is copyright by Robbins Music
Corporation Ltd and the selling agents were Francis,
Day and Hunter Ltd. The LP of this is Argo ZFB 11.
Good hunting!
