medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All,
I would like to introduce myself to this most excellent list and to ask
a few questions of members out there who may be able to address them.
My name is Andrew Kirkman, I am a professor at Rutgers, and am working
on a study of the context and use of the early polyphonic Mass. I'm
currently looking at Mass commentaries, and more specifically at
allegorical commentaries on liturgical vestments. In particular I've
been concerned recently with Durandus, and with HOnorius of Autun's
'Gemma'. I would be very interested on any further leads regarding these
authors' allegorical descriptions of the vestments (and of any other,
particularly later, descriptions of the same nature), any leads on the
extent of their availability in manuscript (and of Honorius in print)
and, most especially, any leads I can get on the dissemination of their
allegorical models into sermons and any other known outlets.
With many thanks, and anticipation of much fascinating reading on the
list,
Andrew Kirkman
