The School of Modern Languages and Cultures is pleased to announce the
launch of a new MA in Interpreting and Translation Studies. This is an
important expansion of its postgraduate portfolio in professional language
training that builds on the outstanding success of the School’s MA in
Applied Translation Studies (MAATS), which has developed an international
reputation and links with the professional world. The increasing
globalisation of international business together with further European
integration and expansion of the European Union to the East has made
interpreting services a rapidly growing area with excellent employment
opportunities for trained interpreters. The MA programme is designed to
enable you to acquire advanced interpreting skills which you can apply in a
professional capacity, whether in a conference mode or in the environment of
business negotiations. A substantial part of the course is devoted to
intensive vocational training in interpreting. In addition, together with
students on MAATS, you will follow a number of modules in advanced
translation, since advanced translation skills serve as a valuable
complement to interpreting in many professional environments.
