How interesting. Also see Bahktin's writings on the "carnival"..orginally
created to mock official order. See then contemporary notions such as Gay
and lesbian Mardi Gras. Also see "burlesquing the other" parody responses
of indigenous nationals (eg san pueblo 'Indians') to colonialism and
tourism - mocking as 'fear' response.
Do you have "dwarf tossing" contests in the USA? We have them in Oz. "but
they are consenting" says a student. "How is that immoral?" My response:
"If I begged you to hold my arm in a fire...would you?" or would that be
immoral?
