medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Werner, Brenda et al,
As long as we're on the Paraclete, what about the
other buildings at the site. There are spaces
resembling cells or artisans' workshops on the left as
once enters the basse cour; they now serve as
granaries, storage areas, etc. There's a burly tower
and something that purports to be a cellar. Do we know
the date and purpose of these buildings? The panneau
at the entrance to the whole complex gives the 12th c.
as its date, but the rear area includes an 18th-c.
building and, of course, the little 19th-c. chapel.
The part that seems most ancient is now someone's
private farm and finding one's way around is very
complicated. I look forward to the results of June
2001 for any clarification.
Thanks,
MG
