italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear All,
I am a second year postgraduate research student in the Music Department
of the University of Southampton. My topic is the villotta and musical
culture in the Veneto during the mid-cinquecento. Villotte exist in
Venetian, Paduan and Neapolitan dialect; I am concentrating on the
Paduan and Venetian songs. Most of the texts are bawdy, if not obscene,
in nature.
I would appreciate assistance with the following text, which is
described as a 'villotta alla padoana' in _Il primo libro de villotte_
by Antonino Barges (Venice: Gardano, 1550). I have preserved the
capitalisation and spelling from this edition.
L'amore si m'hanno fatto traimento
Tuor me la liberte ch'havea in lo cuore
per darme poi non me doggia et tromento
crezzi m'ami che don se cazza l'amore
amo lumega ghe lagha'l segnale
el m'ha si in roiggio col suo cotale
ch'a crezz'haver na bissa in lo magon
che me mangia'l mio core in tri bocon
Thanks in advance for all help.
