Oh, you're right Paul, I didn't read the full text... Yes indeed SMRs
were mentioned several times, both in general terms (important
tools for not only planning but also education etc) and more
specifically in the context of the C & R Bill. My personal
understanding was that the government line is still that the
amendment is rather precipitate and might saddle us with a
fossilised system and they'd prefer to look at it in the context of a
strategy based on Power of Place etc and the HERC replacing
SMR. Opposition parties support the amendment. Seems likely the
bill will fail anyway regardless of amendments if there is an election
- but on the positive side the politicians do know SMRs exist and
that there is a case for statutory status! There will be an account of
the meeting in the next CBA British Archaeology and something in
a future Rescue News (not the next, it's at the printers!) and the
IFA Newsletter
