Legal Studies Department
The Legal Studies Department of Central European University (CEU) announces
a junior academic position in Comparative Constitutional Law, beginning 1
August 2001.

CEU is a graduate research university, located in Budapest, Hungary, and
chartered in the United States. Its primary mission is to contribute to the
development of open societies in Central and Eastern Europe and the former
Soviet Union by promoting academic excellence - including high level
research - and civic commitment. CEU enrolls each year about 800 students
from more than 40 countries, including all former communist countries. The
teaching staff consists of about 100 faculty from more than 30 countries.
The language of instruction is English.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. (SJD) in law. Expertise in
comparative judicial review, knowledge of East European public law
developments and proficiency in one of the East European languages is an
advantage.

Fast-track consideration for a senior position is a possibility.

The university would like to attract scholars who are willing to make a
long-term commitment to living and working in the region. Employees who are
not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary will be required to obtain a
work permit. The compensation package is subject to Hungarian taxation
regulations. The initial contract is for three years, with extension
possibilities to another two years and is renewable.

Assistant Professor position in the Political Science Department
The Rector of Central European University (CEU) invites applications for an
Assistant Professor position in the Political Science Department.
CEU is a graduate research university, located in Budapest, Hungary. Its

for candidates for an Assistant
Professor position in the newly created Department of Philosophy.
CEU is a graduate research university located in Budapest, Hungary, offering
master's and doctoral programs with English as the instruction language.

The University would like to attract scholars who are willing to make a
long-term commitment to living and working in the Region.

The candidate should have convincing research accomplishments, a publication
record and teaching experience in the field of Ancient Greek Philosophy.
Responsibilities will include giving courses on Plato, Aristotle, and other
topic-oriented courses on classical philosophy and history of science.

The initial appointment is for 4 years and it is renewable.

All applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants who are
not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary will be required to obtain a

faculty position in the Department of International Relations and European
Studies (IRES) and in the Department Political Science.

The university is looking for candidates who are scholars with an
established international reputation, or promising young researchers. CEU
benefits from an intellectual environment that brings together faculty from

It is one of the main ambitions of the university to contribute to the
production of a type of knowledge that is rooted in serious scholarship and,
at the same time, socially relevant.

Teaching and research at IRES seek to combine general theoretical concepts
in international relations and international political economy with
region-specific knowledge. Most of our courses and research projects focus
on the interaction between European and global political, economic,
cultural, and ideational processe
s, and the systemic change after socialism.

The successful candidate will be given a joint appointment in IRES and in
the Political Science Department, as Associate Professor or as Assistant
Professor.

Candidates for Associate Professor should be scholars of international
reputation with an excellent research and teaching record in the field of
international relations theory and possibly one other core area of
international relations (foreign policy analysis, peace research or security
studies).

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have an excellent theoretical
background in international relations and/or European Studies, specialize in
one of the core areas of International Relations, and have convincing
research achievements.

The university would like to attract scholars who are willing to make a
long-term commitment to living and working in the region. All candidates
must hold a PhD or equivalent degree and must have publications in the
field; teaching experience is desirable. Besides knowledge of English, the
knowledge of one or more languages of the region is desirable. Applicants
who are not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary will be required to
obtain a work permit. The compensation package is subject to Hungarian
taxation regulations. The initial contract is for four years, and is
renewable.
