Department of Archaeology
Applications are invited for a three year research
assistantship in the Department of Archaeology, University
of Southampton, beginning in May/June 2001.
The successful applicant will be working under Professor
David Peacock and Miss Kathryn Knolls on a new AHRB funded
The post will involve the creation and development of a
relational database for the lithics/building stone
collection based in the Department of Archaeology. Tasks
will also involve sample acquisition and preparation, data
entry, digital photography, image analysis/manipulation and
database management. You should be educated to Masters
Level (or have equivalent experience) in Archaeological
Computing or a related subject. You should have
demonstrable expertise in the creation of relational
databases (e.g. using MS Access/Paradox), as well as
proficiency in imaging software and digital file
management. Experience with GIS such as archive or mapping
would also be desirable.
Salary will be on Research Assistant Grade B: £16,775 -
£18,731 per annum.
