Refresher course for teachers of Italian
A two-week CILT residential course for teachers in Primary, Secondary,
FE and AE
Sunday 21 October to Saturday 3 November 2001, British Institute of
Florence, Italy

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 1 MARCH 2001

The Refresher course for teachers of Italian is designed for all
teachers of Italian in schools, Further and Adult Education. It will
combine opportunities to improve language competence with development of
cultural awareness and pedagogic skills in the teaching of Italian. The
course will be held at the British Institute of Florence, and is
organised jointly by CILT and the Italian Department of the British
Institute of Florence.

Course content
*       Language enhancement classes;
*       School visits;
*       Interactive talks on aspects of education, literature, history,
music, politics etc;
*       Project work on topics of interest chosen by participants;
*       Programme of cultural visits, excursions and social activities.

Level of language
The course is designed for 2 target groups of Italian teachers: those
with Italian as a second or third foreign language who have had little
opportunity to spend time in Italy; and Italian specialists in need of
refreshment and methodological and cultural updating. Participants will
be taught in separate groups for language purposes. All applicants must
have a minimum operational level in Italian equivalent to at least 120
hours' study.

Aims
*       To improve and develop linguistic competence;
*       To update and develop pedagogic skills in the teaching of
Italian;
*       Development of cultural awareness;
*       Provision and development of materials for the teaching of
Italian.

The cost to you/your institution
The fee for the CILT course is £1000 (1500 Euros). This will be payable
to CILT.
You can apply for a grant of up to 1500 Euros through Comenius 2.2
funding.
This would cover most of the costs of the course.

The course fee covers:
*       Half board accommodation with a host family
*       A daily subsistence allowance to go towards lunches
*       Course and tuition fees
*       A CILT tutor to accompany you throughout the course
*       Some excursions
*       Travel insurance

You or your school will also need to pay for:
*       Travel to Florence (we hope to be able to arrange group travel
from London with an accompanying tutor for you, at a cost of £200)
*       Your own social activities
*       Your own day to day expenses

What you need to do
*       Fill in the form below to pre-register your interest in
attending this course. We need to receive your form as soon as possible
*       We will send you a letter of confirmation of your
pre-registration and a Comenius 2.2 application form for obtaining a
grant towards the cost of the course, and an information sheet to help
you fill it in
*       You send your completed grant application form to the Central
Bureau (the national agency responsible for issuing these grants) by 1
March 2001
*       You will be informed by the Central Bureau whether or not you
have been accepted for a Comenius 2.2 grant
*       You tell us if you have been accepted for the grant by sending
us a copy of the confirmation letter from the Central Bureau
*       CILT will confirm your attendance on the course if there is a
place available
