ASSOCIATION for MODERN GERMAN STUDIES
Berlin 2001: A City Odyssey
A One-Day Conference to be held on Saturday, 17th November
2001 at the LSE
Call for Papers
Proposals for papers of approximately twenty minutes in length are
invited for a conference entitled 'Berlin 2001: A City Odyssey'.
It will take as its theme the dramatic changes that have transformed
the city of Berlin and the lives of its inhabitants since November
1989 and the way these have provided material for reflection in a
variety of cultural media over the last decade. We welcome papers
which focus on this topic from literary, filmic, historical, sociological
or related perspectives.
The target audience for this conference is one made up of university
and secondary school teachers.
Papers may be given in either English or German. The AMGS has
its own fully refereed web-based journal: Modern German Studies
(MGSJ). The AMGS plans to publish the conference papers early in
2002. As all the conference papers will be refereed, contributors
should be prepared to revise their paper in accordance with the
guidelines laid down by the Joint General Editors and meet
deadlines as requested.
Outline proposals of papers of approximately 250 words should be
sent by 31st March 2001 to the organizers:
