Fran,
Have a glance in the latest edition of the Oxford Textbook of Sports
Medicine, there are some interesting thoughts on this subject and a good
discussion on ligament healing.
Of paramount importance is the method and quality of the reconstruction,
without the surgeons input, deciding on this or that treatment protocol may
well not be too much more than guesswork. Despite the unbelievable amount of
published research on this topic it still seems there is no clear consensus
on post op treatment, although there is an obvious trend towards more
aggressive rehabilitation. Hopefully in the future there are going to be
more studies examining long term outcomes.
