Not withstanding the issues concerning:
i) IPR- Intellectual Property Rights which the NHS has a policy on
(http://www.doh.gov.uk/nhsexec/iprdocs.htm- granted it is targeted more at
commercial gain from NHS 'inventions' although I know from experience this
also includes images and also impacts upon interventions 'prescribed'),
ii) the issues about patient consent and the rights associated with the use
of medical images (of which the 'consent' component for images is somewhat
of an unknown concern post Alder Hay and other tissue bank),
and,
iii) I am not sure how I would feel about my, my family or friends, or my
patients images being freely available on the web (given that the image is
accessible for abuse and misuse by those of little integrity prowling the
net)
I think I would welcome quality, relevant and easily available images free
at the point of contact. Is this the intention of PhysioBase and have these
issues been discussed? (I presume that the images would be in a member's
only password protected domain?)
