Dear List
I am a student and have been a member of the list on & off for over a year
now(long suummer holidays off, wonder what I miss then?). I enjoy most
aspects even the light-hearted stuff.
However, I have noticed that there appear to be a spate of personal
'attacks' every so often. In fact it is almost cyclical, and maybe could be
correlated to a variable (workloads, seasons, or, topically, the weather
perhaps?).
Alternatively, maybe there is somesort of intinsic internet pressure, which
builds up and up, until there is a relief of sorts with various parts of the
globe spraying abuse at each other.
Whatever, I think it is the only thing that deteriorates the otherwise
evolving list. In the past year I have seen especially Mel, Anna & Robert
slated and attacked for merely expressing their opinion, or saying what
were just off-handed comments.
Will it get to the stage where you need lawyers to look over your posting
before you send it?
All Im asking is if u disagree wih something, argue your case by all means,
but avoid personal attacks. Sometimes the line is not clear, because we all
belive in what we do so strongly, that we 'become' our argument and take
disagreements with it so personally.
But Im sure just taking a few extra breaths, standing up moving away from
the terminal for a while, will allow rationalisation of thought (no evidence
for this by the way, but may do study on it 'Physiotherapy in the relief of
mailbase stress' etc...).
Have fun..
