Dear Angus,
The 'small' Grotefend (Hermann G., _Taschenbuch der Zeitrechnung des
deutschen Mittelalters und der Neuzeit_, as opposed to the much more
detailled 'big' Grotefend, _Zeitrechnung des deutschen Mittelalters und
der Neuzeit_) was first published in 1898. It was frequently revised and
republished, e.g.:
2nd ed. 1905
3rd ed. 1910
4th ed. 1915
5th ed. 1922 (photomechanic reprint Berlin: Transpress, 1984)
6th ed. 1928
7th ed. 1935
8th ed. 1941 (by Otto Grotefend)
9th ed. 1948 (reprint of the 8th ed.)
10th ed. 1960 (by Theodor Ulrich)
11th ed. 1971 (by Theordor Ulrich)
12th ed. 1982 (by Juergen Asch)
13th ed. 1991
I am not sure who revised the 13th ed. or if it is simply a reprint of the
12th (though certainly not of the 10th), but in any case this 13th ed. is
the only one still available in print.
Btw, if you or anyway wants to find out the most recent edition of a German
book (presuming it is still in print), I recommend to use the online
catalogues of the two biggest German wholesalers (www.libri.de and
www.kno.de) and the online version of the Verzeichnis lieferbarer Buecher
(www.vlb.de). Or if you need a *real* big German catalogue of books in
print and don't mind that it also carries some dated and some less than
perfect entries, there is www.amazon.de. You can order the 13th edition at
www.kno.de and at www.amazon.de.
Best regards,
Otfried
