UNIQUE LIS COURSE AWARDED TOP MARKS FOR QUALITY
BRISTOL UNIVERSITY’S MSc in Information and Library Management, along with
three other courses in the Graduate School of Education, has been awarded
top marks, 24 points, by the national Quality Assurance Agency for Higher
Education (QAA). QAA reviewed the course as part of a nationwide assessment
of the quality of LIS courses in the UK.
The course, accredited by the Library Association and the Institute of
Information Scientists, is unique in the UK. It is taught by practising
professional librarians and is the only course in the South West offering
entry to the LIS profession. It has run since 1995 and draws students from
a very wide geographical area.
Professor Martin Hughes, Head of the School of Education, said:
‘ This is a popular course which offers students an innovative approach to
professional education. It has now received the highest possible
endorsement from QAA. We are hoping to build on this excellent result to
expand our provision of LIS education by offering a wider range of modular
courses in both full-time and part-time modes.’
