Looking Ahead: Advances in the Study of Landscape and Architectural
Visibility

Institute of Archaeology, University College London
14th February 2001

Recent advances in the computer-based analysis of visibility include
GIS-based methods for studying the changing view along a path and a
graph theoretic approach to intervisibility. These and many other
exciting techniques have received relatively little discussion outside
the disciplines in which they were developed.

The aim of this one day meeting is twofold: to promote an exchange of
ideas between those interested in landscape visibility and those
interested in architectural visibility, To promote dialogue between
those who take an intepretative approach to visibility and those who
create and use computer-based methods to study visibility. The
meeting will appeal to archaeologists, cultural geographers,
architects and those who study the built environment.

It is hoped there will be an opportunity to experience a virtual model
of Avebury henge in UCL's new virtual reality immersive CAVE system.

The meeting is organised by Mark Lake and Marcos Llobera on behalf of
the Institute of Archaeology Computer Applications in Archaeology
Research Group. See below for how to attend.
