This thread has evolved onto the britarch mailbase (british archaeology), as
someone has posted the Phil David letter, so those interested in the (fairly
one sided) discussion can read feedback from many professional archaeologists
on this exact subject. It seems to have been quite an incendary posting,
which, at least is entertaining, rather than boring. I consider the flaws of
Time Team are far outweighed by the positive elements and I do believe that
this kind of media show will, over the next 20 years, help preserve sites
threatened by development etc.. as public opinion is often king, whether or
not T.T encourages perfect archaeological practice, it certainly encourages
public awareness of the value of historic landscapes.
