I don't think that explains all of the ebbing and flowing
wells. Or if it does, then some folkloric exaggeration is
in play at some well sites. For instance, i remember
reading about one well that ebbed and flowed in antiphase
with the tides, the tide went out and the well flowed over
(ref: Sacred Waters i think).
