Apologies for cross postings:

The Open Archives Initiative (http://www.openarchives.org) (OAI)
develops and promotes interoperability standards that aim to facilitate
the efficient dissemination of content. An Open Meeting to make public
the release of the specifications of the initial OAI interoperability
architecture will be held on February 26 at the Staatsbibliothek
Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin. The goal of this interoperability
architecture is to provide an easy way for data providers to expose
their metadata and for service providers to access that metadata and use
it as input to value-added services. The OAI invites representatives
from a variety of communities including publishers, libraries, E-Print
and pre-print providers, and museums to participate in the meeting and
discuss the applications of this interoperability architecture to their
communitity's information requirements.

Complete information on the meeting and a registration form
(registration is required and will be closed at 100 attendees) is
available at http://www.openarchives.org/Berlin2001/OpenMeeting.html.

NOTE: The meeting will be conducted in English. Translation facilities
will not be available.

Support for the European OAI Open Day comes from the Staatsbibliothek
Preußischer Kulturbesitz and Deutsche Initiative für Netzwerkinformation
(DINI). Support for other Open Archives Initiative activities and work
comes from the Digital Library Federation and the Coalition for
Networked Information, the National Science Foundation (Grant No.
IIS-9817416) and the Defense Advanced Projects Agency (Grant No.
N66001-98-1-8908).
