At Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor (small city/town with huge rural catchment and
Snowdonia) where I work, the A and E staff commented to me that the
intensity of work on New Year's Eve was the "same as any other Saturday
night but it was all quality and none of the rubbish". So it seems people
only bothered to come in if they really needed to and the New Year's
festivities caused some injuries.
Interestingly enough the crap (wet) weather this year has resulted in far
fewer mountaineering accidents than usual, I am told.
Some of you may have seen the reporting of the landslide in North Wales
which claimed the life of one woman and "seriously injured" her husband in
the same car. We took him.
I was interested to see the huge variation in what the papers report. I know
the press read this so I cannnot give details, bit I can say, fortunately,
he is OK. I was disturbed to read in The Guardian that "Last night he was
named by officials at Bangor Hospital as .... who lived..." etc. I know for
a fact we released no such information specifically at the family's request.
Seems they will say anything,
