The Chronicle of Higher Education is holding a live, online discussion on
the career patterns of new Ph.D.'s in psychology, on Thursday, January 11
at 2 p.m. U.S. Eastern time. The discussion is based in part on an article
in the new issue of The Chronicle that explores the concerns of many
psychology professors that some of the most talented new Ph.D.'s with
interests in research fields are abandoning academe for jobs in industry.
Richard McCarty, the executive director for science
of the American Psychological Association and a professor of psychology at
the University of Virginia, will respond to questions and comments about
the career choices of these new Ph.D.'s and whether the choices represent a
problem for academic psychology. The Chronicle invites members of this list
to read the article and to join the discussion (advance questions may be
posted at any time) at http://chronicle.com/colloquylive
