Greetings dear hearts.
Malcolm Ryan makes a good point that while the academic user of a VLE does
not need to know all the ins and outs of how to make the beastie go, he may
not appreciate just how much it can do for him if he does not understand at
least some of the technology involved. Also that sometimes techies get
wedded to something THEY like doing and lack sufficient understanding of the
educational needs of the system... an academic who has not troubled to learn
about the technical side does not have the 'ammunition' to deal with them.
This is why - as a 'webhead' turned ILT Champion/teacher - I am endeavouring
to steer staff IT training into an understanding of the sorts of things that
you can do, and also dreaming up (from my technical background) ideas which,
once I have the teachers' eyes lit up with delight, I then teach them how to
do! That's the aim, and it does take time; but I think that the results will
be worth it.
Hugs and kisses,
Megan.
ILT Champion, Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College.
