Hi,
on a separate list I moderate, (the ILT Champion list), there have been
some discussions about MLE/VLE evaluation, in response to a query from
someone asking if they knew of any studies. I'm summarising the responses
here.
1. Chris Barber: An evaluation project was carried out under the remit of
the Ellen Project in Yorkshire and Humber. They looked at three products,
Blackboard, Fretwell Downings LE and (the late) Express train. There have
been a couple of dissemination events around the region in which users, as
opposed to the vendors have fed back. Rob Harrison at Huddersfield Uni. was
the Director of the Ellen Project and would be happy to share any
information that was obtained from this. His e.mail is: [log in to unmask]
2. Trevor Buttery: There is a report out by the L&S Dev. Agency which
covers On-Line learning and VLE's. It has some interesting stuff.
3. Andy Cook: You could try "Technology based training and on-line
learning" (June 2001) Published by Dean Interactive Learning Ltd (0114 258
1171) It offers a very comprehensive list and description of supplier's
products.
4. JISC are producing a report in Feb 2002. These are the Interoperability
Pilot results, and will examine the interoperability between some systems
and will report those findings. This may well help people to make a
decision but in no way does it recommend
particular products.
Geoff.
