Thank you very much for responding my uncertain first attempt to join in
this ML!
I immediately received very kind welcome messages to encourage me to share
more of my interest.
I am glad to be part of this wonderful network of researchers.
I am from Japan with a background of a staff writer for a newspaper, and
now based in Edinburgh. I have involved various expeditions and journeys
in the Arctic (Siberia, Canada, Alaska, Greenland and the Arctic Ocean),
Madagascar, Micronesia, etc.
I have two charities based in Japan; one offers outdoor/environmental
educational programs to various groups of people, mixture of different
nationalities. Another provides a worldwide (though still very small)
network for environmental education for sustainable future, with which
participants must go out to do some hands-on stuff.
I am a founder, but work as a volunteer for those two.
Through these experiences with indigenous peoples, I started to realize the
needs of cultural awareness in not only environmental but education as a
whole in the world.
This has an influence to my current research topic for PhD, which looks
like this down below.
I appreciate any comments from anyone, and looking forward to having
further interaction.
Thank you!

***************
This study explores a sense of connection with environment through
experiences outdoors, and its differences and common features among Inuit
people in Alaska, Norwegians and British.
There is a strong assumption among scholars that if one loves nature, one
shall take care of it. But its implication to environmental education is
not deeply studied.
I will examine environmental education programs, and try to assess if the
sense can be created, and what constitutes it. After all, it may have an
implication to more culturally appropriate education for sustainable
living.
