In recent years we have had the Ministry of Fuel and Power, the National
Coal Board, British Coal and now the Coal Authority responsible for the
coal industry.
In 1872 when the "Coal Mines Act" was passed "to consolidate and amend
the law relating to the regulation and inspection of coal mine and
certain other mines" it talks about "her Majesty's Secretary's of State"
and "Secretary of State", which Secretary of State would be responsible
for the industry?
Would it have been the Home Secretary?
