final volume in series just out
Exploring Cornish Mines Volume 5, Kenneth Brown and Bob Acton, p/b 208pp this is the final volume in the series it includes a useful index to all 5 volumes and some interesting revisions to earlier volumes including comments on so called improvements or sanitisation of old mine sites. I find these books a very useful addition to my library and will help me plan future surface exploration visits to Cornwall. The print style and photographic reproduction is much improved in this volume, the Authors have adopted an informative style that provides a guided route through the Mining remains walks of generally less than 5 miles. The points of mining interest are indexed and described individually in the book, you are provided with public transport and car parking details the latter is particularly useful and helps to avoid upsetting landowners with thoughtless car parking. The remains and history of each site are described in a reasonable detail by Ken Brown who has a vast technical knowledge. The tours included in this book are Okel Tor Mine, Calstock; The Mines of Luckett, Wheal Peevor and its neighbours Redruth, St Ives Consolidated Mines and St Just United and Cape Cornwall £8.25 + £1.00 p&p
