This sounds like the sort of thing for the National Mining Museum at
Caphouse Colliery, West Yorks. Failing that Dr Ivor Brown, who I think is
still involved with the Museum. My next suggestion would be Peak District
Mines, (via Wes Taylor ?)
Re: the Poor power factor, people may be interested that 0.85 to 0.9 is
considered poor and worth spending money on to improve (if your paying for
the KVA). If electricity was being used underground or any distance from
the
incoming supply, the poor power factor would cost money in larger cables
and switchgear.
Perhaps the problems of flame proof equipment made it uneconomic
