The development of the concealed coalfield east of Pennines is the best
overall explanation for miners moving from Staffordshire to Yorkshire and
then in Notts. by the 1890s. Volume 3 of the History of the British Coal
Industry, written by Church and published by Clarenden Press, Oxford, 1986,
will provide a vast amount of information on coal mining at that period but
I'm sure there are more concise accounts.
