CAT AND CLASS: IT'S OK FOR ANYONE!
Tuesday 15 & Wednesday 16 January, London
OK, or organisation of knowledge, is central to the effective function of
any library or information service. Yet many of you will not yet have had an
opportunity to learn about it.
If you feel you could do with building up some basic knowledge, or if you
would benefit from a refresher course, this is the course for you - a chance
to develop a sound understanding of the tools and principals of OK under the
guidance of an expert.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
This two-day workshop provides a basic introduction to the skills of
information organisation in the context of library and information services,
and a broad based framework built from principles and practice that
participants can take away and develop in their own organisational context.
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM ATTENDING?
This workshop is ideal for information workers who are new to this area, or
those who feel they could do with a refresher course.
SPECIAL NOTES
The workshop content is informed by the major international standards that
are used for knowledge organisation in libraries, including the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Dewey Decimal Classification and MARC
format for computerised cataloguing and thesaurus. These tools are used in
the workshop exercises. This allows participants to develop a basic
understanding of the principles involved, which will then inform their
approach to information organisation back in the workplace.
WORKSHOP LEADER
Keith Trickey, Senior Lecturer, Liverpool Business School.
