Recent discussion on this subject has centred around methods to record
receipt of the e-journal issue, to a large degree based upon the prior
availability of the print version.
TDNet (the e-journals management and alerting system with access to over
13,000 e-journal titles) is structured around the availability of the
electronic issue, therefore alerts are generated for users on this basis,
thus dispensing with the need to monitor the availability of the print
version. Because TDNet links directly to the publisher, vendor or
aggregator's own websites, publication on their sites will result in its
immediate availability on TDNet and hence to the user, who will be alerted
to this fact by e-mail (if they have included the title in their
personalised alerting zone).
TDNet also alleviates the other recently publicised problem of inadequate
publisher delivery to vendors such as Ingenta by having alternative URLs
for all e-journal suppliers with whom the customer has a contract or
licence to access e-journal titles.
