I am currently trying to carry out some analysis on Teenage Conception data in the West Midlands supplied by ONS at ward level for 1992-94, 1994-97 (for under 18's) and 1992-97 (for under 16's).
Whilst National (Our Healthier Nation) analysis of this data appear to have been carried out on the basis of estimates of female population aged 13-15. At Health Authority level rates appear to have been calculated against a variety of population bases presumably due to lack of availability of population estimates for such demographic groups at other than a national level.
Can anyone suggest whether there is any guidance in NHS/Demographic studies as to what population base would be most appropriate for such analyses and where I might be able to obtain this. I would have thought population estimates by ward for female teenagers at say mid-term census (1996) would be available somewhere??
Any advice greatly appreciated.
