List members
I am grateful to Glenn for his helpful comments. Every so often gis-jobs
suffers from the problem of a flurry of subscribers trying to get off the
list by mailing the list itself, this is then made worse by others offering
helpful advice, or simply flaming the unsuccessful unsubscribers.
To leave gis-jobs send a message with the following text in its body:
leave gis-jobs
to
[log in to unmask]
This will ONLY work if you still have exactly the same email address as when
you joined the list. If your email has changed or gis-jobs messages are now
forwarded to you this will not work and you have to email me using the
address:

Since the end of the last year this service is provided by JISCmail rather
than the old Mailbase. For more details of JISCmail see
www.jiscmail.ac.uk
One improvement of the JISCmail service over Mailbase is that those members
whose mail bounces over a certain period of time get removed from the list
automatically. If this happens to you please rejoin the list once your email
is reliable again or you have a new address by sending the message
join gis-jobs <FirstName> <Family Name>
to
[log in to unmask]
The minor outbursts of frustration and bad temper are usually caused by a
very small number of list members (for example only 12 wrong unsubscribe
messages have been sent to the list since the beginning of last December).
In the meantime the list delivers job offerings to its 1500 members with a
minimum of fuss and no cost to either those advertising jobs or those
interested in them. The only reward I get is the pleasure of meeting both
individuals who have got jobs through the list and satisfied employers from
time to time or getting the occasional message that says thanks.
With best wishes
Bob
