AIM EdWeb Opportunities
Last year The Association of Independent Museums, with support from
Resource and the Carnegie UK Trust, successfully enabled 12 of its
member museums to launch their educational material on the web. The
approach which the AIM EdWeb project piloted (see AIM EdWeb Guidelines:
http://www.museums.org.uk/aim/education) is now to be applied by a
second group of AIM members, with further Resource support. Subject to
available funding from potential sources in future other groups will
also be able to follow this route, each contributing to development of a
greater range of content accessible via NGfL, and of refinement of AIM
EdWeb methods.
With this extension from a single project into a process for content
generation by small and medium sized museums, AIM is interested in
forming a short list of individual consultants to take on planning and
task monitoring for future EdWeb groups. People on this list would be
eligible for recommendation by AIM to the groups concerned to assist
them in applying previous EdWeb experience in an efficient and
consistent way to achieve their objectives.
There is no fixed pattern or duration of such commitments - for the next
group there is a need for assistance with management tasks already
planned; later roles will typically be part-time over six months; and it
is important that those involved in future will maintain liaison between
successive groups to ensure consistency and development on behalf of
AIM.
The role will be shaped to match the resources and needs of
participants. In general museums participating in EdWeb will have
limited web skills and experience, will have developed conventional
educational materials based on good links with local schools etc., and
will have a background of independence, enthusiasm and volunteer
involvement. EdWeb funding supports advice and guidance in key parts of
the process, and licencing of AIM EdWeb development tools.
We therefore invite those interested to apply to join this list. We
would like you to have experience of:
- evaluating and designing educational content for the web, related to
National Curriculum or other formal requirements
- working with multi-organisational teams
- working in or with small/medium sized museums, particularly with
strong links to communities or special interest groups
- planning tasks to take account of limited and volunteer resources
- and who have a flexible and empathetic consultancy style
In the first instance please contact Lesley Colsell, EMMS, by email at
[log in to unmask] BY 27 JULY, with a short summary to illustrate
experience as above. Your information will be restricted to the AIM
EdWeb Steering Group, who may contact you for more details or invite you
to meet them for discussion.
