Hi Will,
I tried to convert a full vehicle model from LS-DYNA to RADIOSS for my
final year project, and I encountered many problems when carrying this
out. There is no dedicated LS-DYNA to RADIOSS convertor available, which
means that HyperMesh is about the only thing that can aid your conversion.
However, be warned - HyperMesh is NOT a translator, and it is for this
reason that errors do occur in translation. It is not as simple as most
people think to take the model through HyperMesh and obtain a fully
translated RADIOSS format model in one operation. You will have to have a
detailed understanding of your LS-DYNA format model, and the equivalent
RADIOSS format definition, because up to 60% of translation could be
manual i.e through text-editing, or by using the
pre-processing functionality of HyperMesh. The only thing HyperMesh will
not have problems translating are the nodal coordinate definitions!
There are conflicts in element topology between LS-DYNA and RADIOSS (an
LS-DYNA accelerometer element will be translated to RADIOSS as a
three-node shell element), and the material and contact definitions will
not translate directly to RADIOSS. Also, I assume that your LS-DYNA model
is in keyword format? You will have problems here, as the current version
of HyperMesh will only write out to RADIOSS fixed format (RADIOSS block
format being more compatible with LS-DYNA keyword.
The best piece of advice I can give is to consult the HyperMesh online
help, which gives details of supported cards for LS-DYNA and RADIOSS,
together with hints when carrying out LS-DYNA to RADIOSS translation. You
will ultimately be driven to satisfy the requirements of HyperMesh in
order to achieve a sucessful translation.
I am happy to give you more detailed help if you require it. If you would
like to send me your model, I would be happy to look at it, and make
suggestions to assist you with the conversion. You may email me on the
address below if ti would help.
Good luck, best regards
Lyndsay Stanley
