We share our accommodation service with another local university, and all
our residencies are self-financing.
Occasionally, we have a student who requires en-suite facilities as a direct
result of their disability, eg Crohns disease. In the past, we have tried
successfully to recoup the additional cost of the en-suite facility either
from DSA or Hardship funds. Recently, we have had a few LEAs who have
taken advice from the DfES who have said that as this is not a need directly
related to their study, it cannot be reclaimed from the DSA and is an
institutional cost.
I am interested in whether any other universities have come across this
situation, and if so, who pays the extra costs? Whose budget does it come
from?
Any comments gratefully received.

Elaine
