Managing XML documents is problematic when document collections grow. How do
we successfully store and query document collections?
One solution is a database. We will discuss the problem of integrating XML
with databases and examine choices, such as relational databases, object
databases, object-relational databases and native XML servers.
Akmal Chaudhri has been working in the area of Objects and Databases for 10
years. He has been a regular presenter at a number of international
conferences, such as OOPSLA and Object World. He has co-edited the books
"Object Databases in Practice", Prentice-Hall, 1998 and "Succeeding with
Object Databases", John Wiley & Sons, 2000 and is about to start on his next
publishing project on Java and XML Data Management.
At present, he is a Senior Architect with Informix Labs, where his
responsibilities include evaluating new technologies, such as EJB and XML.
He has previously worked for Reuters, Logica and Computer Associates. He
holds a BSc in Computing & Information Systems, MSc in Business Systems
Analysis & Design and a PhD in Computer Science. He likes to think that he
is not a technology evangelist, but a technology pragmatist.
