The Sharing Museum Skills Millennium Awards 2001 deadlines 2001 applications
are 23 March 2001, 24 May and 27 July.
What is it?
The scheme offers secondment opportunities to people working and
volunteering at all levels in archives and library special collections and
they are seeking to support ambitious projects that could not take place
without the financial support provided by these Millennium Awards.
What are they for?
* Grants are normally between £2,000 - £6,000 for a secondment period
of up to 8 weeks. Partnership funding of 20% of the grant requested should
be provided, but can be an in kind contribution such as staff time and
office costs.
* Grants can pay for, travel, accommodation, living expenses, provide
cover during secondee's absence as well as increased costs in equipment and
materials at the host organisations.
* Activities can include any kind of work carried out in archives,
library special collections, museums and related heritage organisations.
Who is eligible?
* Anybody over 18 years old that with 3 years experience of working as
a member of staff in an archive or library special collection in the UK.
Normally 2 years at your current organisation prior to an application.
* Anybody over 18 years old that has worked as a volunteer, trustee or
otherwise unpaid worker in or for an archive or library special collection
in the UK for at least 1 year prior to an application.
What to consider before submitting an application?
* Discuss and agree an outline application with key people in your
organisation.
* Identify the most appropriate host organisation, the Millennium
Awards Administrator will be able to provide a list of host organisations
that are interested in the scheme if you do not already have in mind an
organisation you would like to work with.
* Approach the host organisation with your proposals and if they are
interested, discuss and agree the most appropriate project in more detail.
What does the application entail?
* Secondee to complete a 6 page application form of which:
* 3 pages is factual information about yourself, your current
organisation and your proposed host organisation
* 3 pages giving some more information which focuses on the
community benefit and personal aspirations that will be achieved from the
secondment and the costs.
* Host organisation to fill in a 1 page about themselves and the
nature of the secondment project.
* Support the application with the secondee's current Curriculum
Vitae, letter at a senior level at the host organisation formally agreeing
the secondment
