YOUNG STATISTICIANS' MEETING 2002

The Young Statisticians' Meeting is an annual event that will be hosted
in 2002 by Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland on 25th and 26th March.
The typical YSM participant is either nearing the completion of a PhD,
or is within the first 5 years of a statistical career, in an academic,
business or industrial environment. In previous years the meeting has
attracted in the region of 120 participants.
The conference is arranged as a series of plenary and parallel sessions.
To begin the conference, there will be a plenary lecture given by
Professor Gordon Murray, Professor of Medical Statistics at the
University of Edinburgh. There will also be a wine reception and poster
session on the evening of 25th March, where delegates will have the
opportunity to meet some of the conference sponsors. Session themes are
likely to include environmental statistics, medical and pharmaceutical
statistics, theoretical statistics, statistical computation,
engineering statistics and quality control, and financial stochastic
modelling.
The conference will be held in Pollock Halls, on the edge of Holyrood
Park and close to the centre of Edinburgh. Registration will start late
morning on Monday 25th March and the conference will close after lunch
on Tuesday 26th March. The cost of the meeting is £50. As well as the
conference fee, this includes all meals, accommodation and evening wine
reception.
