For participants that utilize Beckman CX/LX platforms.
For Na measurements in patients with multiple myeloma or hyperproteinemia do
you see a significant electrolyte exclusion effect (pseudohyponatremia
secondary to incr protein or globulins).
Do you have a protocol to repeat hyponatremic values in these patients by a
direct method to confirm or deny the hyponatremic status?
At what levels of protein do you see the effect?
(the lead MT in my laboratory insists that the beckman ISE is unaffected by
these states unless the protein is extremely high or the patient is
hyperlipidemic)
Thanks
