I'm not convinced that users spend much time guessing the path although it
is evident that they will attempt to guess the domain name. Of course, the
key variable here is audience: those visiting academic websites are probably
atypical compared with the samples used for most studies...

Trying to find out whether anyone anywhere has done any research into how
users go about finding websites if they don't know the url.
Mainly interested in whether url guessing actually happens or not and
whether anyone has the figures to prove it. Have found a lot of conjecture
so far, but I'm quite good at providing that kind of stuff myself!
