Hello all, I've been lurking a while but thought I'd jump in on this one as my
institution is bowdlerised here.
Notice they have a DISCLAIMER and COPYRIGHT section. The cpyrright section
includes:
INTERNET PAGES.NET LIMITED
(Licensed by Directory4Students.com) . gives no warranties as to the
accuracy of
your details on the Website and accepts no responsibility for any inaccuracies
or errors.
Surely this is not a copyright notice at all, but a pre-emptive two-fingers to
HE institions who might complain that
- They are stealing our logos
- Their info is out of date
- They are implicitly suggesting that HE institions endorse/collaborate on
their pages (eg. 'Where to find US' in the Queen Mary Section)
- They are associating our names with commercial companies they host ads for,
as though we were condoning this
I noticed the thread a couple of weeks back about the other similar site. Would
it add weight / be more likely to scare them off if a joint letter was sent
from the institutions they rip off, something like a petition, and would this
be practibly organisable?
Otherwise, any suggestions welcome, as prospective students going here would be
woefully misinformed; there isn't even a link in there to our actual web
presence, so people would have no chance of stumbling on the truly informative
pages that are out there for them.
Look forward to talking with you all,
Sam
