A couple of years ago I noticed Silicon Graphics (SGI) had staff
personal pages linked from their site (don't know if they still do).
A lot of the personal pages were about mad 3D visualisation stuff (as
well as baby pictures, etc) so it left me with a very positive impression of
the people and the organisation. I remember thinking: these people are
really into their work(!)

I think this is the viewpoint I tend towards.
The happy medium is, provide staff with the corporate page describing then
include
links to personal space (wherever that may be). you then give the required
corporate branding but also allow vistors to find out what the actual person
is like,
if they wish.
What's wrong with that?
