Spatial analysis and simulation
We are aiming to fill two research posts working on related aspects of the
theory of urban and architectural space. Both posts are on the RA1A scale at
a starting salary in the range #20,865 - #26,361 p.a. including London
Allowance, and are to be filled as soon as possible.
The objectives are to develop new methods of analysis of spatial fields at
the scale at which people and social organisations interact with the built
environment. A demonstrated ability to program research software with
excellent graphical user interfaces is essential. One post will concentrate
on the development of analytical methods, and a background in a mathematical
discipline such as physics or electronic engineering would be an advantage
the second will concentrate on the development of simulation techniques
using spatially aware agents, and a background in psychology or neuroscience
would be advantageous. Both posts will be of 2 years duration in the first
instance, subject to an initial 3 month probationary period.
The proposed work is related to a programme of research taking place at the
VR Centre for the Built Environment and the Space Syntax Laboratory and has
been recently supported by the award of Platform funding by the EPSRC.
Ideally candidates would have a doctorate in an appropriate field, however
relevant previous experience in software development and research will be
taken into account. Enquiries can be made by email to [log in to unmask] or by
post to Alan Penn, The Bartlett Graduate School, University College London,
Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT.
The closing date for applications is Friday, 16th February 2001.
