Hi SIMSOC friends,
A short and rather technical question and a few links:
Do you know of any (hopefully free) software for general (differential)
modelling for Linux or other Unix operating systems, software similar to
Stella or Vensim?
There is software out there but most of it is for specific applications
only. An interesting ressource, for instance, is
The OpenScience Project
http://www.openscience.org/
Quote: The OpenScience project is dedicated to writing and releasing
free and Open Source scientific software.
and the extensive collection on
Scientific Applications for Linux

A mainly discrete event simulation software list is at
simulation software links
http://www.topology.org/sim.html
Other software can be found at several Linux starting points like
LinuxStart: Applications: Science
http://www.linuxstart.com/applications/science.html
You see, there is software but I haven't found a general purpose tool
yet. Thanks in advance for any advice,
-- Andreas
