Subject: A New Publication on Russian Culture
Date: 20 January 2001 14:53
Dear RuSS All
On request of Professor Anthony Cross, the authority in
Russian studies, University of Cambridge, I am pleased
to forward his introduction to the publication of the first
number of ROSSICA, a quarterly journal devoted to Russian
culture and Brito-Russian Cultural Contacts. I had a pleasure
of reading the magazine myself and enjoyed it immensely.
The Winter 2001 No 1 issue has some 72 pages, is
beautifully illustrated and contains a range of articles of interest for
all interested in Russian culture. It is large format and is to a degree
an English Nashe Nasledie.
The first issue contains the following articles (the texts are in
English but there are Russian synopses at the back):
The Hermitage Rooms
The Northern Minerva (article by Galina Komelova of the Hermitage)
My Little Collection ( on the Hermitage collection by Oleg Neverov of the
Hermitage)
For Faith and Loyalty (new exhib at Hermitage)
Novgorod: Buried treasures (by Simon Franklin)
Painting the Century (4 Russ portraits at National Portrait Gallery
Exhibition)
Remembering Alfred Schnittke (by Aleksandr Ivashkin)
Sophia The Divine Wisdom (Sergei Averintsev)
The Knight of St Sophia (on Vladimir Solov'ev)
Sinai, Byzantium, Russia (new exhib at Courtauld Galleries)
Russian Art at Auctions
Book Reviews
Copies of the first issue (priced at £7.50) may be obtained from
Svetlana Adjoubei
the Editor
Academia Rossica
Freepost LON 16219

The journal will be available thereafter on subscription (£45.00 per annum)
which also brings membership of the Academia Rossica and certain benefits
(reduced entry to exhibitions etc).
I hope as many as possible will feel able to support this brave new
venture!
With kind regards
Marina Burrell
